Caved in crab
A while ago my crab started molting and the sand recommended to me dried out too fast even with my humidifier. I know not to bother them during this time and I figured that he knew he would be okay but I am freaking out a little because it's been about a month since he was on the surface. I'm afraid he might be dead. What should I do?
Re: Caved in crab
A month isn't very long at all for him to be down, so I wouldn't worry about that much yet. How dry did your sand get, and how deep is it? Assuming it was the proper consistency and depth when you set it up, I would guess the sand towards the bottom of the tank maintained moisture better than the top few inches, so there's a good chance he may still be okay since they typically dig down pretty far to molt. We always advise not to dig up a crab unless there's an emergency like a tank flood, etc. but I would also say go with your gut.
Crabbing since July 2014! 75 gallon with 12 Purple Pinchers.

Re: Caved in crab
I'd just spray every day, not enough to flood but enough to get it damp. Mine molted in calcisand (not recommended) and I just sprayed to keep it damp. Is the sand mixed with coco fiber or anything?

Yup just keep spraying the top. You can actually pour some water (not to much) in the corners to make sure the water is getting all the way through and not just the surface is damp.
