Post by JJmo18 » Fri Jan 09, 2015 4:33 am

One of my Hermit crabs dropped two big legs and his big pincher and im not sure how to take care of him. he doesnt move around very often and stays hidden out in the open all day long. does anyone know how to take care of this???
edit: i think i let my tank get below 70 deg Fahrenheit for a few days. could this have effected this?

It is very possible that the low temps caused this, or it could just be pps. There isn't a whole lot you can do now. I have tried hand feeding in isolation, tried leaving them alone...end result is always the same.
They usually don't make it once they start losing limbs. Sorry you are going through this.

Get him in an ISO with ideal conditions and feed plenty of protein, calcium, and honey. That will give him the nutrients needed to prepare for a molt.

unfortunetly i descovered him hanging out of his shell when i got home today. i checked to see if he was moving like yesterday and nothing. no reaction and there was the smell of rotting fish. i decided to bury him out in my backyard just a few minutes ago. RIP bumblebee..

Aw I'm sorry! It's always hard to lose a crab!
