HCA: Hermit Crab Association

Santa is a pretty big guy. He actually is a really great one (he is a PP)

He has been down for a while. Since the beginning of October maybe? Anyway a while ago I found a hollow small pincher that belonged to him on the surface and here is what I found today.

This is where he is buried. All the way at the bottom. Now I haven't seen him move much and now I am assumning the worst. What do you guys think I should do? I tried looking from the bottom of the tank but where he is is covered up so I can only see him from that side.

If he just molted, perhaps the others carried off his claw before he could eat it. Because you can see part of him I would give it some time. You should be able to tell if it is going bad for him.

My jumbo Robinet was down around three months [smilie=pull_hair.gif] .

If they took it from him when he was molting then couldn't they have just ate him in the process?

I say dig, and this is why:

two weeks ago i also found some hollow legs on the surface, and two days later found poor uncovered mushie, who was pretty large (2cd biggest in tank, a medium) had been attacked during his molt, and two legs ripped off. luckily i got him into iso, but i hate to think of what would have happened if i left him in there.

i would get a personal iso set up for him and then dig very very carefully. but thats just me, because of what happened to my mushie.

Good point annopia! It would also depend on how much you can see of him.

You can see him through the glass a little right?

When that happens to me, I normally grab a flashlight and shine it in the area so i get a better view, and then if the hermies are alive they get kindof angry at you and start moving the antennas around. That way i know they are alive and i wont have to go through the stress of digging out an angry squishy crabby

Well he is alive. I will tell the whole story with pictures tomorrow. No damage.
