Just got 3 little guys/girls/its?
Just got 3 little guys/girls/its?
Okay, so my crabitat was set up last week and showing stable humidity at 74% and temperature at 75F. I'm still trying to get it up a little bit but wanted to get the crabs in and settled before my students come back to school next week. When I went to the pet store, they had 2 littles (shells 1 inch or smaller) and 1 medium guy. 1 of the 2 Littles is missing his big claw from the larger hermie he was housed with. I couldn't leave him alone with the bigger guy so I got the 2 and found a third at another store on the other side of town. Will the hermie with the missing claw be okay? Is there anything I have to do? Also, on the food list, it says peanuts and shells. Is that raw peanuts or roasted? Actually, with all the nuts listed, is it raw or roasted? Thanks in advance!

Hi! Welcome.
I feed raw nuts but you can do roasted if you'd like. Nuts only, no added salt or honey roasting, etc.
The crab can regrow it's limb.
The best thing you can do is get your tank conditions stable and holding heat and humidity of at least 80 for both.
How large is it and how many crabs?
If you haven't already, read the care guides. They have a lot of great info and links to more detailed subforums.

Thank you! It's a 20 gallon tall with the 3 crabs. Here is the tank.
I'll see if I can catch them out and about and get a pic of them tomorrow. I'm hardboiling an egg now and I have unsalted roasted almonds, natural peanut butter, and fresh apple slices to take to them tomorrow. I hope that's okay and enough variety. I put calcium powder, canned river shrimp, and the food pellets in there today.

The pellets contain toxic preservatives so I'd leave them out, but the eggs, shrimp, nuts, and apples all sound great.
It is not necessary to replace the food daily. They're scavengers in the wild and eat decaying and old stinky food.
What are the ingredients in the calcium powder?
I know it is so much to take in and it sounds like you are doing your best, so please don't get discouraged!

Wow! No more pellets. The ingredients for the calcium is calcium carbonate. Is that good??soilentgringa wrote:The pellets contain toxic preservatives so I'd leave them out, but the eggs, shrimp, nuts, and apples all sound great.

That's fine. You can also toss in eggshells, cuttlebone, or smashed oyster shells for calcium as well.

Found one of them. He was changing shells.

I got the temp to 80F and humidity to 80%. I can't find the other 2...
