I'm Mandi & here they are

Post by kieagcarm » Sun Oct 09, 2016 9:40 pm

I already posted my intro, but here are the pictures. Just a quick recap...parents bought my daughters each one hermit, I went n got two more, have two tanks with two hermits, bought all the wrong stuff. Here is the tank in my room(youngest daughter's), dark one is Gary, other yet to be named. ImageImageImageImageImageImage
I know now that they need a bigger tank, lots of substrate, maybe a bigger uth, and stuff to climb on. Oh and salt water. I plan to get this stuff next pay day.Image

Hey, at the very least it's better than the conditions at the pet store. Not only that, but in the future you're setting them up properly. I hope you have no trouble finding what you need and good luck!

P.s. How are your daughters liking them so far? Are you learning about them together?

Well my oldest daughter, Katie, had Athena attack and kill Aphrodite. I got her a baby hermit, called Bizzy for now, but she is my youngest daughter, Ashlyn, tank with Gary & Yeti. I know it's a small tank for three crabs, but it's better than having the babe killed too. I'm the only one who wants to learn and do this right, it's part of my personality and who I am. My girls really just like watching them. Here are some new pictures...Image Here is bizzy the babyImage this is Yeti eating her freeze dried banana in the fw bowlImage the newest set upImage This is Athena, the aggressive loner

awww. im sorry for your loss (and your daughters) i know your working on the hermies setup but make sure that you also give at least one food dish for every crab. (i really do find its better to have one for every crab and an extra). this will cut down on aggression over resources.

Thanks for that, I figured one big one was better but three small is ok too

no problem! most animals that live in groups and are prey need multiple food and water spots. that way they are worried or stressed over resources. also while anything is eating/drinking/defecating its more vulnerable so if they are already upset/stressed and then get an easy target...... :( :crabblush:

Eh. I only have one food dish, sometimes 2, but I have a suppliment dish, moss, a cuttlebone, I plant chia, and I scatter leaf litter. 2 is a good idea, that way there is less competition for resources, but there is no way I'm preparing 6 food dishes every time I feed the crabs. XD I suggest 2 if you feel like they are competing for resources, and then having moss, leaf litter, (which is a great free item the crabs love, if you have a yard or somewhere to source them pesticide free, Oak is their fave) chia, an eggshell, or a combination of other food to munch on and they should be fine. Over time your crabs will probably become friends. Though there still is an occasional shove here or there, for the most part my crabs get along pretty good, and sometimes will even eat together, and cuddle every day.
