Hi! New here!

Post by Creardon84 » Sun Dec 08, 2019 12:51 pm

:crabblush:

Hi. I'm Crystal. Just took in four hermit crabs in the last month or so. Started with two in a ten gallon. I realized that it was too small and upgraded to a 30 gallon and added 2 more crabs. So far 3 of them are under and only one hangs out up. I have two in the ten gallon still. I'm hoping they don't stay down for too long because I'm really trying to make the big tank awesome. I have lots of shells in there for them. I got the hermit crabs for my seven year old thinking it would be much simpler. After researching them I realized they need so much more and once I get my set up complete it will be easy peasy. But not cheap 🤣 so here I am!

Welcome to the HCA! They are a bit of a challenge to get set up, once you have humidity and temperature stable it gets easier. You are right, they are not cheap, even if you are trying to be cost efficient.

Pet sand isn't a lot of fun either. But they are amazing and fascinating creatures.

Welcome aboard! We are glad to have you here, and you're taking a big step in helping to take care of your little boys and girls! I would admit that yes, hermit crabs are not very cost-efficient creatures, I had to spend approximately $40 so far for supplies, and yet I'm still not done yet! Very taxing on a broke college students budgets, LOL. I would say that contrary to pet store or popular belief, hermit crabs are not quite beginner creatures, since they do require moderate levels of care. I have kind of learned this the hard way, but I do not regret it at all!

Feel free to look around, learn more about your hermit crabs, and meet new people and ask lots of questions! :-)

Here is a list of the HCA "herminology." This would've helped me out a lot when I was a new member! :hlol:
