So at some point I'm sure most of you have heard the infamous chirp that sounds like some awkward yet awesome combination of a cricket, a frog, and a bird. One of my crabs has started making a new noise that is very peculiar. It is high pitched, with no raspiness or vibrato at all and starts off loud and a bit lower pitched, but then starts and stops with an increasing beat and pitch with decreasing volume. And then stops after about 5-10 seconds. Honestly I thought it was a bird outside at first, but it's coming from the hermits and has happened about once a day for the past week. The best description is like if a sonar beeper was going off as something really fast swims towards a submarine.. Lol I just thought I'd share. Anyone else heard this before?

Yes, a few nights ago they woke me up. I checked out the tank and everyone was getting along. Seems normal to me.

Re: New noise I'm curious about
I was very curious about hermit crab noises, as I thought I had heard something about this before. I did a little digging and found that they make the noise with the inside of their shells and something along the lines of with their legs closest to the abdomen. Seems perfectly normal, but it could have also been a hey I'm here, I'm good! Hehe
New to crabbing an lovin'it!

In my experience they usually chirp if they want another crab to leave them alone.
