I just discovered that one of my crabs has really short antennae.... Will he be okay? Can he tell if there's food for him?

There are two "sets". The long "straight" ones are for touch, their way of feeling like your fingers.

The "L" shaped set is for taste.

The long ones should appear really long after a moult but can break or get broken between molts.

What kind of pellets are you feeding them? Hermit crab pellets from the pet store are not really good for them. Feed them natural peanut butter, honey, fruit, veges, oatmeal, meal worms, etc.

I'm a little lazy sometime so I feed them mostly pelets. I feel bad for them so I want to try to get them some natural food from the hermit crab patch and maybe a bag of shells

It's honestly only a lot of work when you're just starting. If you can devote a good bit of time to setting them up properly and gathering food for them ahead of time and storing it or buying it from THCP they're not hard to take care of at all! It's just a learning curve

You can also ditch the pellet food for bits of hardboiled egg (shell included), veggie scraps from your kitchen, and nuts and seeds that you snack on. Pellets might be dangerous to crabs because some manufacturers use ingredients that are safe for humans but toxic to crabs. It will be in the crabs' best interest to eat clean until you can purchase good food.

Honestly, crabs don't eat a lot so saving scraps from what you're eating (fresh fruit and veggies, unseasoned meat and eggs) is easy. I use egg shells to serve it so I can just throw it all out when changing food (or it gets too disgusting).
