Introducing Toad!

Post by megmaholm » Sun May 17, 2015 9:31 pm

I already posted him on the Facebook talk page but wanted to share him here as well. I was at Petsmart with one of my dogs and just HAD to walk by the crabs. My hubby immediately said "NO" and I honestly meant to listen.

Then...I saw a big crab wedged in a decorative hide. I saw thick red legs and immediately knew I had to have him. And I also immediately named him Toad.

My husband kept his mouth shut other than to comment on his size/prettiness, haha!

He's cranky but outgoing and looks like he's in good shape. I'd say he's a small large, so about the same size as my biggest. Still not huge, but big enough!

Enough rambling, here are pics!

Her hubby has learned that saying no doesn't stop her. Lol

He was a little aggravated at first, but by the time we got home he was commenting on his size and color, etc. He likes all of them; he just won't admit it. I'm currently housesitting for my parents while they're on vacation, so my husband is taking care of the crabs. He made sure to update me this morning that Toad was pigging out and had switched shells. He tried to get a pic but Toad scuttled off and buried.

So yeah, he has to pretend to hate them, but he's always been sad if I lose one, and helps out with getting stuff situated in the tank, etc. He's a keeper!

Thank you!! I can't wait to see him flourish and grow and become even more beautiful.

I have some seriously weird crab names, I know.

Wow, toad is a big crab.
I'm not ready for big hermit crabs yet.
I'll just stick with the smalls for now.

Not that big compared to some peoples' on here :) Big enough to earn some respect from me, haha. I prefer small crabs, honestly, but I would've felt guilty leaving him there to potentially go to a bad home. I hate supporting pet stores for something like this, but I can't seem to help myself.
