New hermit crab!!! (first of three)

Post by Onlowan » Thu Nov 12, 2015 6:53 pm

(pictures below) I finished the tank (finally) so I was able to get my first of three hermits! Im getting three in total but the pet store didn't have many left and they are getting a big shipment of hermits on friday. I didn't look to buy them from the pet store at first, but its to cold to ship and there wasn't anything on craigslist (plus I work at a pet store so it is convienient). I saw that some sites said to give them a bath when you first buy them, but I didn't necessarily know how to (do you just dunk them?) and Im pretty sure he is mite free since he has been at the pet store for a while. I don't have a UTH on the back at the moment because it is warm in my house but I will be doing that very soon. Is it okay if he is by himself for a little bit?

For bathing, just a quick dunk in the freshwater is fine.

As long as the tank is maintaining a high enough temp (80) without the UTH, that's fine. He'll be okay alone for a while especially since he'll probably dig down to destress.

Just to double check, how deep is your substrate? The minimum recommended depth is 6" and yours looks a little shallow but it's hard to tell :)
Crabbing since July 2014! 75 gallon with 12 Purple Pinchers.

Its a bit over 5 and a half inches, but it looks a lot less in the picture though lol

Gotcha, I thought it might have been the angle. Be prepared to add more as it settles/packs over time. ;)
