Hi! New (sort of...)

Please post here if you are a new crab owner and someone will be along shortly to welcome you to the HCA! This is also the place to welcome new crabbies to your clan!

Hi! New (sort of...)

Post by crabby_D » Sun Feb 07, 2016 7:42 am

Good Sunday morning!
My name is Jenn, I am a single mom of 2 boys, ages 12 and 9. I teach high school math in a public school which keeps me pretty busy, so I haven't posted much. I'd like to change that!!

I've been browsing a lot, and am grateful for the wealth of information that you all have shared. Here is the run down on us:
We purchased 2 hermit crabs from the beach, only to discover with a short browsing session that their care required far more than the shop indicated. Our hermits lived in their wire mesh open "cages" for two days IN THE BATHROOM until I could find a tank and heat source for them. :(
One of our original crabs made it only a few days, the other about a month.

We now have a pretty successful, but far from perfect set-up. We have now kept (for 4 months) a total of 6 crabbies, all mini-med size. 4 of them live in a 10 gal and 2 in a separate 5 gal. I originally moved the two for molting purposes, but decided to keep them there to prevent overcrowding.

I have a ton of questions!! All three of us adore our crabs. I will post some pictures as I can.
Thanks again, and I look forward to "meeting" you!

Kindergarten, although after a few years of that high school sounds more and more attractive-but I have an early elementary degree. :) Teaching is in the blood though for me.
