3 New Adoptions Today

Post by soilentgringa » Sat Aug 01, 2015 12:32 pm

Today I picked up 3 new adoptions.

Mushu (the largest PP in the teal dragon shell) was originally in a CL ad, pictured naked with a $20 price tag. After I very politely texted the owner and explained the reshelling process, etc. she agreed to allow me to take the crab only.

The second pair are Ice Cube and Minnie (owner asked that they keep their names). They were a Valentines day gift from a husband to his wife and they had no idea of how to care for them. They were in an open cardboard box full of dry play sand with no shells or water.

Poor guys! Once again, you've done a wonderful thing, soilentgringa -- I'll bet every time you rescue a crab, an angel gets its wings :D ! With these new guys, how many crabs do you have now?
PPs are Big Enzo, Charles Paris and Mr Pinch
On the Big Beach in the Sky: Murray, Gino, Oscar, Gordon, Ignatz, Harry and King Felix the Pale
Also Mom to Imogene the Syrian Hamster

I lost track with the molters down but I have like 20 above ground right now including the adoptions spread out over 3 tanks of varying sizes. The teeny one is going to a fellow Dallas crabber later this week as she has plenty of smaller shells and I realized when I got her home that my nieces made off with my little shells during their last visit, as I had no crabs that small then. So she has like 3 to choose from today.

Dear lord. It looks like they glued something to the shell to make it looks like a bee. Why in the world would someone think that is a good idea????

It is plaster affixed to the shell before they paint it. I hate painted shells as a rule but they can sometimes be cute.

She is a lovely crab and I hope I did not offend you. They are very lucky to be a new member of your crab family.

Not at all, lol I hate painted shells, it was meant to be more ironic.

Ha! I adopted a hermit crab yesterday and he has a weird bump on his shell (maybe painted to be a platypus or some terrifying space creature) and I was not sure if they glued something to him. After seeing your butterfly I can see that that must be what they did to his shell. I just had NO IDEA someone would glue appendages to shells. Thankfully Richard (my new crab) changed shell right away. Are Ice Cube and Minnie PP's?

Oh we had one adoption in a football helmet glued to his shell. He buried ASAP before he switched and didn't make it through his molt because the helmet filled with sand and he couldn't get back topside.
