I went in for cat food and got snagged by an employee on my way out. They gave me a crab that had been returned. The owner bought it and a tank mate to join her large crab at home. They had just figured out crabs need companionship. The new guys were teeny. The large killed one and ate him. Then went after the second. The owner was horrified and brought the remaining little guy back hoping to save him from the large. I agreed to take him. I get out to my van and pull him out to show my kids. He is already dead.

I take him back in to deliver the bad news.
They hand me a new crab and thank me for being willing to take the other.
Welcome new little one. Still working on a name.

S/he's super cute!
I feel bad for the other crabber's lone guy. Is there anyway you could leave some care info for them to pass on to them if they ever return?

Just darling! Your reward for trying so hard to save crabs in need, although I know you don't expect a reward.

They cracked me up. They quickly popped him into the container and rushed him into my hands. "I'm so sorry about it being too late for the other. Take this baby. I know you're his best chance of survival." And she turned me by the shoulders laughing and gave me a push towards the door. "Get that baby home and into the right conditions! He needs you!" I was dumbfounded.

I don't think he is going to make it. He is alive but not moving. I dipped him in the water today to refresh his shell water and sat him next to the dish. I wanted to see if he would go back to his corner. 6 hours later he hadn't moved. At all. I know what to do but I think he just went through too much before I got him.

That is a sinking feeling when they become so inactive. Still, one never knows about these things. At least you are doing everything you can for him.

I love that little guy. His stole my heart with his tiny little legs.

he hasn't eaten since I got him or changed shells. All of the crabs I have lost from PPS didn't change shells before they died. He has me very worried. The other little guy dug down over a week ago. Hopefully he will be up soon. I miss him.

He didn't make it.
After the last post on the 3rd I had put the little guy back in his little hole he liked. I saw a few days ago that he had moved on his own out of his little hole to be near the food. I have been stuck in bed with complications from my surgery last week so I have left him alone since everything in his tank was good including dried foods.
I went downstairs to take some empty soda cans to the trash and thought. "Ooooh! I will peek in. Maybe he will actually be up and moving." He was still by the food in the same position. I don't know when he actually moved to that spot since I wasn't around to spy on him. I had that bad feeling in my stomach and knew I had to check him. I picked him up and blew on him lightly. That is how I always could tell he was still alive since he only came out for me when i gave him a bath the only time. He didn't move. I tapped his shell upside down to see if he was tight inside and he moved. The shift move like lifeless slide a little to the opening of the shell.
I did it a few more times to be sure it wasn't him deciding to come out. He slid a little more each time like he was going to fall out if I kept at it.
I sniffed him out of fear...fishy...
Crying with internal stitches, massive bruising and external glued but coming open incisions was more painful than I thought it would be. I am pretty heartbroken. I fell in love with that little guy and his tiny little face and Itty bitty pinchers. He held a very special place in my heart. Poor little guy.

I've been keeping up with this thread and I'm so sorry to hear that he passed

. At least you provided him with a good last home.

Awww, I'm so sorry.

He certainly was an adorable little guy. Those eyes...
