Crabs de-stressing. One lost a limb..

Post by The Franckinator » Tue Apr 19, 2016 4:26 pm

Hi everyone. This is my first post and I'll start by saying I currently have three new slash young crabs in an ISO and they've been in there since 4/14. Long story short, one of the crabs had been in a corner for a few days. While I knew he was probably de-stressing, I also looked at that particular spot which was not in the same area of the tank with the most moss and heat. I picked him up (I know, that's a huge no-no) and nudged his legs with my finger; he responded with a sluggish movement towards the interior of his shell. This startled me, so I placed him beside the food shell, in which I put around 1/4 tsp of honey, and I kind of pushed it right in front of him so in case he came out he would immediately smell it. Later on I checked on him - he had adjusted his position, but it seemed one of his legs was sticking out at an odd angle. Again, I was startled but I left him alone. Now, he's moved and it's definitely a dropped limb. Basically, I'm asking three things:

1. What do I do with the limb? Will one of the crabs eat it or what?

2. What are definite do's and don'ts with new crab care?

3. If it will make it easier, can someone show me the list of questions for ISO tanks or tell me where I can find it? I couldn't find it and I'll move this thread if you guys think I should.

Thank you!
He's crawling all over my wrist..and he's sayin', "Won't you hurry up and get the mist?
"Feels like a desert around.. my bowls and sand mounds..so Imma frown..
"SO WILL YOU GET THE MIST!?"
Me - "HECK YEAH!"

Hello and Welcome to HCA!

You'll probably want to move this post to the Emergency section of the forum. You'll get a better response there.

The help template I'm posting below is in the emergency forum. Just cut and paste the contents of this post into a new one and add the answers to the help template. W'ell need this info to better understand what's going on. It could be PPS, and probably is, but with more information from you, we'll be able to tailor our answers to fit your situation.
