New Crabs, Es, AHHHHH

Post by JulesRolyCrab » Sat Jul 09, 2016 7:11 pm

I'm sorry guys, but I'm totally freaking out. I got two healthy small ecuadorians at the pet store and was pleasantly surprised. The Petco worker was very friendly and eager to learn about the crabbies and the different species. He actually went and asked if there were adoptions available before saying there weren't and letting me buy two!!! The conditions were pretty okay for a petstore, with SW and FW, Eco Earth, and no overcrowding (ish).
My new crabbies are great, one is so active and just switched shell! (I CAUGHT IT ON VIDEO!!!!) Nice turbo, I'll wait a couple hours before removing the disgusting pink shell. He actually explored the water too, which is the first time I've seen that! The other guy is more chill, which worries me but I hope he's okay. They're cuties!!! :D Sorry, I'm so excited!

What a great find! The Petco near me occasionally gets an Ecuadorian or two in with their delivery of PPs and I almost keeled over when I saw a lovely pale blue crab in with all the painted shells!

And remember HCA's mantra: :worthless: !
PPs are Big Enzo, Charles Paris and Mr Pinch
On the Big Beach in the Sky: Murray, Gino, Oscar, Gordon, Ignatz, Harry and King Felix the Pale
Also Mom to Imogene the Syrian Hamster

The glare on the glass is killing my hopes and dreams! I guess no pictures till the crabs are destressed enough to be picked up or to open the tank! Thanks for the interest, though!!

And of course, I lose my tank clip on the one day I have crazy active crab[s?]. Murphy's Law for you.

Sad! Hopefully there is another opportunity. Anyway, I would've gotten PPs if they were healthier/more active at the store, I just wanted to get the best crabs! Who care about species anyway?? (subtly raises hands) Jk, though. They're all crabs! :D

My Petsmart does that. Except the fancy ones are in ugly painted shell, and the normal ones are natural. The stores have no idea the species, I doubt fancy was exotic.
At this store, though, they just separated the prices by size (small= $5, Medium=$6, Large= $7). I thought that was better than the Petsmart, making it seem like the painted shells were better!!! :(

If you post a picture here: (viewforum.php?f=8) then I can tell you what the species is! (or do my best!)

Okay, I am still freaking out, but pretty frustrated, got the worst night sleep do to sharp claws on the metal lid (he discovered it...) :hlol:
But now I fully understanding your crabs "wrecking" the tank at night. Hydrometer/thermometer fallen, shells scattered, and a shell in the food bowl!
I thought the last one was pretty funny as he is an awful climber. No, scratch that. He can climb very well, but he falls off everything three times before getting it! And he keeps trying to climb the glass.... over, and over, and over again, making little squeaky sounds!
Funniest story (I swear it's true!). I was watching him and I place my finger on the glass. And he followed it. Like, wherever I put it. And then I moved it and he got scared, but I thought that was pretty cool!
Unforunately, all this is happening to one of them. The other guy is in the cave still (but moving a bit). Hopefully he moved at night and was just sleepy in the morning....? :?:
