Quick ID, please!

Post by AleyedtoBuggie » Thu Aug 18, 2016 4:08 pm

I went to Petco, and glanced into the Hermit Crab tank and...

Are they ecudorians or just pps? There were two in the food bowl and they ran away backwards lol.

My two pps are very purple, so I just wonder if they are e's.

Plus they're on sale! 25% off.

Thanks in advance!

I know how some feel about painted shells and buying in stores, but I can't get e's anywhere else so far. If anyone knows where in Houston, TX to get them, let me know.

I kinda just want to "rescue" 2 of them. Especially so they can get out of those shells!

They look like E's to me. You should make sure they replace the water that is empty.

@AleyedtoBuggie They are definitely E's! Take advantage if you have the space! Exotics are so rare!

I thought so! I wasn't sure and the ppl who work there are clueless. I wonder who even fills the water for them.

Should I get 2 to add to my 25 gal? There are 2 pp's, one small and one medium in it already. The medium, is molting. Or would they be happier in my 55 gallon once I move and set it up?

I just worry about not getting them now. I've never seen E's in this store before. Today, looks like 10 in there, at least!

Edit...I count 20, at least!

I read the care sheet and I'm scared the 2 E's will dig up my molter...The sheet said they are known for it. :(

They're E's. I would personally recommend upgrading tank size if you can or make sure the sub is very deep.

I have 3 E's and they dig like mad!

Provide plenty of protein and digging space and you should be fine.

We have had a couple of members have E's that were aggressive in the past, Wodesorel even rehomed her E's to Sach, and Sach didn't have any issues with them. Same group of crabs.

I have 2 Es with 12 PPs, and I have no problems. They are definitely diggers and frequent shoppers in the shell shop. I enjoy how active they are. To be honest, only one of my hermits is named because he/she is the most personable. "Wendel" (who is an e), is not shy and doesn't mind my tending to the tank or watching them. Guess I am lucky!

To crabbyjo and isadoraisacat, the store is in Houston, Tx. I don't know where they got E's from, but they still have about 4-5, last I saw.

I never looked at the guys in painted shells because i would never even want to bring them home and risk my crabs eating the chipped paint it's possible that the es are all painted shell guys as all the ones people said from petco seem to be in painted shells

Same here. It's possible that they have had E's before, because these guys are all in painted shells. Sometimes the pp's are in the painted shells too. It makes me sad to see them like that, especially after I saw a video on how they get that way.
