I'm really new at crabbing, seeing as a temporary guest became a permanent resident lol. My stepson agreed to pet sit his baby brother's crab while their mom moved out of state, she decided not to come back for the crab or the goldfish. Shortly afterwards my friend's parents got her son 2 crabs without asking if he even wanted them. He didn't. So, now we have 3.

I didn't know what I was doing at first and they all lived in a 10 gallon tank with no substrate, enough water, etc. After lurking around here they now live in a 40g with 6in on the shallow end to 10in on the other of play sand/EE. I have an approximate heater (zones 74-80F, humidity hovers around 80%), fresh and salt water pools, tons of fresh foods from all the categories, hides, moss pits, climbing stuff. It's far from perfect and I still have a lot of learn, but I'm proud of my progress so far.

Thought it was about time I introduced myself after lurking for so long.

Lurking, lol. Welcome!! Sounds like you’ve given them everything they need, good for you! Lucky little crabs . Do they have lots of shells?

Yeah, I've spent an embarrassing amount of $$ on shells. There's about 50 total that are the right sizes and 5 that are waaayyyy to big (learning curve, I guess). I rotate the shells that are in the tank once a month to 6 weeks, but no one's swapped shells yet. Even the biggest one, who's shell is to small. It's mostly turbo shells with a few babylonia and magpie maybe, for variety.

Oh, and I make sure to sanitize them pre swap in the salt water I use for their pool.

It’s so easy to do, I’m guilty as well. They’re picky though! I have one little guy that’s still in his painted shell...and he has so many other options, haha. Sounds like your crabs will be very happy in their new crabitat!

Speaking of that, Casey, how is Flash doing? Any better? How are the new crabbies doing?
