Help need to know if it's safe

Post by Alaina » Sun Aug 01, 2021 9:59 pm

Hi! I'm making my crabs a new habit and want to know if I can use reptile carpet and clear, hard plastic more an acrylic plastic. I'm using it for the second story not substrate. I want to put the rep. Carpet ontop the bin as a base for them to walk on instead if the plastic being the base. Can anyone give a list of things that shouldn't be used inside(not as) a tank like..metal, or paint...I know they are bad but things like hard plastic they can't break off are ok right? The tanks a 40gb glass tank with 4xdeep sand/coconut sub on base level. I read if I can use it in reptile cage it's norm ok. Please help. A list of things/material I can use to make a creative habitat would be appreciated ao much! Ps..any places to buy big shells besides Amazon and there's so much about their temp what is it supposed to be 75-85? What's to hot? Finally should I chop the food for them into tiny pieces? Thank you all so much.

You can chop or not - or do some of each, just to mix things up for them.
Yes, hard plastic is okay, and even not so hard, just keep an eye for when they start to shred it up.
I'm not familiar with reptile carpet, so can't help with that, sorry.
Temps over that are okay for short periods, but I think temps that are consistently above 90 can get dangerous. I live in Canada, I don't usually have the problem of too hot LOL.
If you have an E, you might want to consider deeper sub, they like to dig.
Naples Sea Shells has larger shells, Richard's Shells too I believe.

Thank you so much. I keep a cool home but my sons room is hotter since he like the vents covered a little so we keep it at 75 in the tank to 80 I was worried it wasn't hot enough because of all the mixed info online. Thank you again! They have seemed really happy but I wanted to check. The E is small so 4x the larger PP is a out 8x or more deep. I should have been clearer about the size. I was worried about such a big size diff. But they actually get along great. The PP is huge in a shell with about a 2.5inch opening now and the E is in a super small shell. They are quite funny looking friends lol
