Is being stressed the only reason they chirp or is there other reasons and if there is, what are they?

Re: Chirping??
Most people hear chirping when there is a shell fight. We have a few crabs that will chirp when you pick them which would be stress too. Some people hear crabs chirping while they are down molting. I have seen two of my crabs batting antennas at each other while chirping too.
I guess what I'm saying is chirping is like a dog barking. Depending on the situation it can mean different things.

Re: Chirping??
Example of randomness; my biggest crab is outright noisy. We used to check on him all the time just to see him chilling making noises. We’ve had them for quite a while so I’d have to assume there are some who are just noisy crabs. I would, however, check on them until you establish they are just being noisy.
