My crab Bernie had been molting since January 12th. About a week ago I spotted a hole on the substrate and got super excited that he was coming back up. But he’s just been chilling under the hole ever since. Also every-time i check the hole he seems to have moved a few centimeters or rotated himself
PSA: I purchased him in a painted shell and he hasn’t switched yet. I have two crabs and they have about 20 shells to choose from

He could just be taking his time. I've had a crab do similar, they came up fully eventually.

As to your shell selections, unfortunately from what I can see you don't have many that Purple Pinchers favor. They look to be the "wrong" type or far too heavy. Maybe try buying a variety of polished silver mouthed (white on the inside) turbos.

i have a ton on the other side of the tank lol it just happens that all the not as liked ones are in the photo. I have mostly turbos like 2/4th silver mouthed and the remaining gold, i also have a few other shapes because i dont know what my crabs are into. Although their PP i’ve seen some that prefer murex or just other kinds

Hard to tell but I’m wondering if your sub is deep enough for him to fully dig down...might be why you see his shell...?

he was fully buried for a while and i’ll be honest it isn’t quite six inches because that was a temporary tank. but before i could move them into the new one they both went under to molt. but hes on the deepest side that’s about 5 inches

They were excited to dig under! Lol. Maybe he’s just slowly making his way to the surface while he’s hardening up...
