Adding sub.. just double checking...

All of my crabs but one, are currently under and molting. Three are solid -smalls, and one is still under eating his exo, but he looks like he is three times bigger than he was before. So I would guess he will come up as a solid medium. He is at the very bottom on the glass in his cave and he has 8 inches of sub on top of him. I want to add some sub. I am actually pretty good on the amount that is in there. I have about 8 inches but like to have a little more. It has settled over the last few months. I like to keep it almost half way full in the 30 gal tank (about 9-10 inch) I have and it is not quite there. I just want to add about 3 inches. They have more than enough to completely cover themselves. Should I just wait to add more. I know it's not an emergency to add it and even though it could use more to suit my preference, it may be safer to just wait until they are all up. Especially considering that I don't know where the other two are buried or how deep. If I do decide to add, isn't the rule no more than an inch every 24 hours? I just wanted to hear from some of you and see what the general opinion is.

It's not hard rule, but to keep it easy to remember many go with an inch per day... just don't pack it down!

You've got the rule of thumb correct. If you follow that, they should be fine. Sounds like you have plenty of sub. Personally I probably wouldn't add more because it doesn't sound to me like you need it, but if you follow the rule the crabs should be fine. The crabs would probably like having more sub. If you want to add more, I say go for it. I'm still pretty new at this, but that's my opinion.
