When is it best to hold your crabs and what kind of thing can you do with them and keep them happy?

Hermit crabs are more of a hands-off pet because they need constant humidity in order to breathe, and holding them too much stresses them out. I can imagine that them being without humidity for a while is like you or I holding our breath for too long. Image If you want to occasionally, and I mean occasionally hold them, you should always have a flat palm or they might pinch to hold on to you so they won't fall. To keep them happy, provide climbing toys, appropriate shells, treats, a perfect over all environment, and friends for the crab. Image

I recommend to never touch your crabs unless it's necessary, or not very often.
You should wait until they molt at least once in your ownership, then they are less stressed.

Crabs are natural prey animals in the wild and being handled is scary for them, it simulates being picked up by a bird and carried off.
