Climbing on the hood

So, my crabs started climbing on the hood a lot more now, and when I reached into the tank tonight, my largest crab was clinging to the hinge. I cannot close it back again because she’s blocking it, and if I shut it, the lid may pinch her.

I gently tried to wiggle her around, but she won’t move, and I absolutely hate touching my crabs.

I only wiggled her around, she wouldn’t budge, so I stopped touching her.

Ya ! Try again ... wiggle forward... I seen they grip their claws inward ... like as u would close ur hand ... my daughter rubs our crabs legs like petting the legs lol.....

For now, I sprayed the tank down a bit, and left the lid open. She’s slightly moving, so we’ll have it shut soon.

If that's the one of mine then you will have that problem a lot more. I had a glass lid and she would still end up on the hinge. Aren't hermits just amazing creatures.

Rajah has done that! When i found him OUTSIDE of the tank, he was gripping a towel with force! I didn't want to forcefully pull him off, so i did what i do with my pups.... SPRAY BOTTLE! A couple of shots and he let go and i immediately put him back in the tank. Last night he was on the right hood, but thankfully i have two separate lids so i could open the left side to add their food. i did add some extra weight though, just in case my Houdini could lift it!

Ever since you posted that one post about your crabs being on the lid couple days after mine got out of my plastic.... so had to put a diff lid ! And been clinging to the lid to!

On this post, I agree with not wanting to touch the crab so much. I'm always being extremely careful of the crabs because while they are strong and hardy, they are also very fragile. Whenever they are clinging somewhere, such as the lid, I will make sure to close the lid as carefully as possible.

But, I am that the old spray bottle worked and you got the crab off the lid successfully.
