Lonely crab

I have 4 crabs in my 70 gallon tank. Two medium, one a little bit smaller then one quite a bit larger. One of my medium Rose has been up for a very long time. All her buddy’s have been down for 4 months only coming up for a week once each. I feel that Rose is lonely without any buddy’s since on the rare occasions her friends are up, they are always together. I am worried that some of her friends may have died while molting because I just recently got them and may have pps:(. I don’t want to upgrade there tank in the future because it was custom made and is perfect for them so I don’t know about adding another crab because when they get bigger I don’t want to get a new tank or separate them. I really don’t know what to do? Do you think that Rose is ok or should I get her another friend even though it will probably go down to molt right when I put it in?

Rose is okay! She knows there are other crabs around, even if they don’t always show up.

So I know you said she would be fine but I was just looking on this forum on how much space a jumbo crab needs and it says they need 15 gallons. So if I had five crabs I would be 5 gallons over but I think that’s OK cause I don’t think they will all make it to Jumbo size. I think I’m going to get Rose another crappy friend if it ends up working out I really wish I could find a crab that is not sold as a pet store but I have been looking for over five months for crabs available in my area for rescue but I could not find any.

They'll make it to jumbo size before you know it, if they're properly cared for, so do keep that in mind.

All of my crabs are adopted. Have you checked craigslist (if you don't see the HCA rehoming any in your area)? I've even posted my enclosure and said I'm willing to take in new buddies for my crabs, back when I was looking. There are a lot of people who don't really *want* their crabs anymore, and it may not have occurred to them to actively seek a new home for them, but when they see a big, beautiful setup, just waiting... they might get in touch with you. :)

Ya I know they grow pretty fast and I do you have an extra tank that I could put two of them in if they all get too big to fit in one. I posted an ad for wanting hermit crabs in my area haven’t gotten any replies and I posted that five months ago. I look every week on to try to find them on here and craigslist but I haven’t been able to find any yet but I will keep looking for a bit longer. Thanks for all the help everyone:)

Lately I’ve seen some adopting happening on Facebook hermit crab groups. I even saw one close to me but 10 other people already commented on wanting them. I really don’t have room for more anyway. Just thought I’d mention Facebook if you haven’t already looked there.
