Quick question

Post by crabbycasey » Sat Jan 09, 2021 8:49 am

Is a teeny safe in a 40g breeder with 5 mediums? All PP. What about a small, same question?

All 5 of my PP were under and when I went to Petsmart for more moss, I felt terrible for crabs there bc of their conditions so I saved a small and a teeny. Put them in my tank with everybody under and within 2 days the small one, Ruby, dug straight to the bottom and I can see her in a window. The teeny, I named Tiny (couldn’t resist) had checked out about half the tank and then found the food and a hide. Good stuff! Well, last night Turbo (one of my 5 that were under) came up and now I’m suddenly worried about Tiny! But yay for Turbo with my fist successful molt as a crab owner! He looks so pretty, very light in color.

Thoughts?

Congrats on the newbies!

As long as you have suitable climbing material for the little guys to get in and out of the water dishes, you should be good to go. They should be able to easily access the food dishes too (not to tall, deep, etc). But you said the one found the food so that's great!
Motörcrab has adopted babies from Mary Akers and said the little ones like to follow the big guys around and see what they do. He said the little ones learn a lot from the bigger ones. So I wouldn't worry!

I will for sure! Can’t wait to get a good pic of the teeny little guy! I was so anxious to get him in warm, humid conditions that I didn’t even think of snapping a picture before I put him in. I did manage one in the tank of my new small one, Ruby (her eyes are red)...

Aw she's so adorable! Look how big those shells are compared to her haha! Some of my guys have red eyes too. Ruby seems like the perfect name for her!
