Same species vs. Mixed Species in Tank

Post by Guest » Wed Mar 28, 2007 3:07 pm

Hello Crabbers, do any of you have tanks with just one species of crab? I'm curious to know if they act any better/worse or more violent/less violent when crabs are with thier own kind verses being mixed in with other species. Any one have any insight?

Last year, I had a tank that only contained Es. Needless to say, the tank was constantly trashed! The Es are less destructive if they are spread out over several tanks.....they don't do well in groups!

I have tanks with only PP's. PP's are the only thing I can get in El Paso and some came directly from Puerto Rico.

Everyone gets along fine most of the time. I have three large that will trash the tank on occasion.

The only problem I've have is one molter being dug up and attacked, it seemed to me they were after his exo (he's doing fine, likes to stay by himself).

I had a streaker last night. Second one. My daughter was in the animal room caring for her Geckos and suddenly " NAKED CRAB, NAKED CRAB. Still haven't found his shell. He moved into a new shell soon I put him into a little salt water and gave him a choice of 4 new ones. He was just walking around the tat. Go figure.

I've only been crabbing since December, so for the time being I haven't had any streakers. But, I already have had one death and yesterday a molter was attacked. I have 5 left now, 2 PPs, 1 E, and I'm not sure what the other two are yet, since they're still down molting. But for me, it seems that the PPs seem more well behaved. It may be a fluke though, since you only have PPs still had molters attacked and stuff.

I have Pps, E's, and Straws in teh same tank. They all do fine together. In fact, my E's really love to hang out w/ my largest crab, who is a straw. lol. And they are all the smallest too!

I have mixed PPs and Es for quite some time and they tend to get along great. It's almost like the Es are the wild children, while the PPs are the innocent bystanders.

I only have PP's right now. I have only been crabbing since December. I haven't had any real problems. When I got Yo-YO he stoled Norm's shell, but it turned out ok. Norm liked the shell Yo-Yo left him with better anyway. They seem to be doing really good and getting happier everyday.

That's a great way of putting it. My E causes all the trouble while his PP friends just watches and shakes his head.
