Hibernation state?

Post by The Franckinator » Mon May 02, 2016 7:19 pm

What is this hibernation state that crabs can apparently enter? It's caused by constant low-temperature I believe.
He's crawling all over my wrist..and he's sayin', "Won't you hurry up and get the mist?
"Feels like a desert around.. my bowls and sand mounds..so Imma frown..
"SO WILL YOU GET THE MIST!?"
Me - "HECK YEAH!"

Low temperature kills them, they are unable to hibernate or brumate through them like temperate reptiles.

Maybe a different type of crab? I remember seeing a story about crab vending machines in Japan or China. The crabs are kept at a low temp. inactive but alive until someone comes to buy them for dinner. It was a way for people to get fresh crab that normally was not available.Just a thought.
Can not remember what type of crab it was,the edible kind not hermit kind.
