Can you over de-chlorinate water?

Post by KaeleeM05 » Tue Jan 02, 2018 6:18 pm

I bought an API water conditioner and it says 1 ml per 15 gallons so I’m not sure how much to put in one gallon(I use gallon jugs to store my water) so I was wondering if it’s possible to over de chlorinate it jut in case I put to much.

Your looking to add 0.06ml (0.066•), which a drop (usually around 0.05-0.07ml) of the water conditioner will be fine. If your worried, or have high levels of chloramin/heavy metals in your water supply, two drops will be suffice. Edit. you may want to go out an purchase an eyedropper or a plastic pipette to make it easy to add a drop or two of the water conditioner instead of trying to pour in a drop into your container.

A slight overdose of water conditioner doesnt do anything besides being a waste of a product.

Some are safer than others. I am not sure about API, but Prime has been shown to be safe at a 100x's the normal dose.

I once poured half a big bottle in my 20 gallon because the dropper had popped off and I didn't realize until I flipped it over the tank. Oh my gosh did I panic! Did a huge water change and looked it up and had nothing to worry about. My fish and shrimp were fine.
