Heaters
Re: Heaters
My Ultratherm is insulated and gets the glass it's against to 110ish degrees. It keeps my 55 gallon in the safe range even when the house temp drops to 62, and I supplement with a heat bulb or 2 as needed. I've never had good luck with pet store UTHs, but everyone has different experiences with different things, so it may just take some trial and error.

Yeah, trial and error. I gotta agree, I got a bad one, because literally everyone else recommends them even the HCA itself (I believe)CallaLily wrote: I'm wondering if you got a bad one? Mine heats the surface of the glass in the middle to 97.5F (not insulated). It does feel toasty to me but then my hands are almost always cold. Crazy how some have great experience with the brand, and others not so much.
But question... What sizes did both of you guys get? Don't different sizes of ultra therm have different wattages or heat barriers? Most to all pet store UTH do. Also are your guys' warm-hot to the touch? Because mine barely makes a difference when I hold it while my All Living Things UTH hurts a little to hold too long in bare hands (also I have a low heat tolerance).

Re: Heaters
I have the 6x23 on the way now.

Re: Heaters
Mine is 11x35. It gets fairly hot. Not enough to burn me or anything, but I can definitely feel it. Yes, I think the different sizes are different wattages, but I would think any size should be warm enough to feel.
Yay casssch! Let us know bow it works out

I have an 11x23 Ultratherm on the 29g and it's comfortably warm to the touch.

Re: Heaters
I have upgraded to the 11x35 Ultratherm and while my tank isn't completely finished, the ultratherm seems to be doing a great job.

Re: Heaters
That's why I like the Flukers pads, since you can find them in local stores and they run just as hot - my 11x11 when measured directly is 110 degrees when laying off of the tank, 120-130 on the tank, and goes up from there if insulated which according to the directions it should be.

Re: Heaters
It's been 24 hours with both the ultra therm and zoo med plugged in and my heat went up to 70, so I taped aluminum foil over the ultra therm. However the humidity also dropped down to 70% as well. I still don't have water in my pools so hopefully that will help my humidity.
