Help with a new crab- won't molt!

Hi everyone!

A couple of months ago, because she loved taking care of my jumbo crab for me while away, I Bought my younger sister a crab- they're both purple pinchers (and reside in separate tanks.) she picked out a small one, and upon bringing him home we learned he was missing his small claw. He isn't too shy, has a strong pinch, but we've had him for several months now and he just will not molt. I am concerned for his safety- it may simply be because I am used to my jumbo being extra hardy and healthy- but what are some things we could do to encourage his molting and regenerating his limb, and overall health? He does not seem to eat all too often.

First of all, hermit crabs are not solitary creatures. They do best with a buddy. Provide plenty of calcium, protein, healthy oils, raw organic honey, and the other item from the food pyramid (under forums, food) if conditions are right, your sister's crab will molt when it is ready. You cannot force it to molt, or encourage it to.

Thank you both! We try our best to give them a balanced diet and will just continue being patient with the little guy. We're planning on adding to the family of crabs this summer!
