To give away or to not give away

Post by AndyCrabby » Sat Jun 02, 2018 3:56 am

I didn't know where to post this. I kinda want to give my hermit crabs away but at the same time don't. I don't know if I should be taking care of them or not

If they are still in your possession, you should be taking care of them.

Well, I personally cannot answer this for you or be in your place to make a personal decision like this one. You decide whether you want to keep them or not. IME, I wouldn’t ever be able to get rid of mine, I love them too much for that. I won’t make choices for you.

Do whatever you think is best for them, but don’t just stop caring for them while you still are the rightful owner. Every animal deserves the same amount of care or priority and aren’t judged by what kind of animal they are.

@Stellacrab - perhaps the OP just worded the post wrong. :)

We've all been there. It's easy to obsess over the crabbies, and then hit times where they can be a little overwhelming, or possibly feel like you don't have time for them. I know you care for your crabs. I also know that you have the proper set up for them. Unfortunately, none of us can make this decision for you. This is a decision you have decide. Perhaps write a pro and con list.

Is it due to food preparation? Making pre-made foods that you can just put in to feed them makes things a little easier. Freezing organic baby food into ice cube trays makes it easier to serve up also.

Best wishes making this decision. We are here for you!
Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com

I know what they said, I just wanted to make sure they weren't going to be left uncared for :)
I would also recommend the dry foods, they are easier in a pinch. Although, I try to feed fresh foods five times a week, and offer as much as I can.

Sorry I didn't mean I wasn't caring for them. I love them and I make sure they are cared for since they're my babies. Lately other personal issues have been overwhelming me and I feel as if I can't care for them as well as I can be. I honestly think they're great pets and once you have the tank set up and running they're fairly low maintenance. I feel like they need an owner who isn't debating whether she should get out of bed today

AndyCrabby

I have totally been where you are and have even gone so far as to post mine to be rehomed before changing my mind.

If your heart just isn't in it any more and you decide you want to adopt them out, you should not find any judgment here.

They are awesome in that they require no cuddles or interaction, only good conditions. If you aren't sure yet, it is fine to wait until you have no doubts! I find a good rescape of the tank or an upgrade is enough to kick me into hermit mode again, but I have considered rehoming mine many times over the years as well.

I feel that most of us has felt uninterested in our crabs at some point.
