The naughty tank

Post by Careyenz » Fri Apr 27, 2012 7:36 pm

I have an E in time out. This is his second round, so I don't think he's going back to his home anytime soon. This poor guy has been searching for just the right shell for two months or so. He's in a different shell most days, and seems to keep going back to a moon shell, or one of many Babylon japonica shells. I bought about 15 in his size range from shells of Aquarius (12 cents each) after he started this switching. He seems protective of them. The problem is that two of my pp's switched into these as well. The crabs are both way too small for these shells and can barely be seen when curled up, so I'm not sure if he can really cause harm to them. He's bullied the first one for a month off and on, and the second just came up from a molt. I found my E with the recently molted pp flipped over upside down trying to get at him. So, he's landed in the naughty tank with a fellow smaller E for company. I have literally tried every type of shell imaginable for this crab. I think I'm out of options til he finds something that he's comfortable enough to start modifying. I've spent a small fortune on shells now for him. They won't go to waste, but I'm throwing in the towel.

After he was put in the naughty tank, he switched shells 3 times and is now in something new. I don't want to put him back in right away until he seems content in what he has now. He's in good conditions in a 10 gallon with a buddy. Has anyone had a shell fight go bad when the crab being bullied was way too small for the shell? My two pps are in Babylons and you can barely see their Bp around the spiral. I just don't know if my E could actually get to them.

he may be overwhelmed by the sheer number of options and wants them all for himself. he may not have been done trying out those shells and felt the need to defend them

The naughty tank

I switch out a few every week to hopefully find something he likes. He's in a new, never tried before shell now-a striped fox. I don't want to put him back in the main tank til I'm sure he's content...or my pps switch shells. He's big for an E, so I know he would be able to do some damage if I'm not lucky enough to interfere.
