yeah i may do that. I moved the gauge into my living room with the AC running the humidity dropped to 65 %
i put it on top of their tank and it was at 85 % exactly what the the other gauge reads, but once i put the probe inside the tank
it sky rocketed to 99 % i tried moving in it various places. I have a 2 very large water pools and lots of moss, so its honestly hard
to find an area thats not 'wet' or water related. But its funny when the guage is on top of the tank with the probe it matches my
analog (which was calibrated for 24 hours at exactly 75 %). maybe its just too sensitive maybe im better off keeping it on top of the tank?
i know my other gauge is accurate so im just also comparing it to that. Its weird though after 5 hours in the salt test is was only off by 2 degrees.
I dont know if the gauge is exactly off too much or more that its too sensitive as far as humidity.

so my correct gauge is reading 84 % on the dot right now.
I read some gauages can be 15 % off after 80 percent so i did the math
about 14.85 - 99 gives me around 84.15 all i can guess is its not accurate
after 80 % and that if its reading 99 it just means its over 80 :(
im going to send it back i think, and order one of those flukers digitals
from THP. what a pain !

I have that hydrometer and I've never had issues, I keep the probe in the tan,
Display on top. After a calibration of 7 hours it was perfect... It could just be a fluke, I'd let reptile basics know...it really is a great model, not sure what happened there. :/ Image I'm sorry though, that's frustrating.

It shouldn't, then it's reading the room's humidity. No good. :/

all i know is my all living things analog is on the money
my petco one is off by 2 (which is no big deal) and this one
is all whacked out. I'm going to contact them right now
i think im going to order the flukers one from THP weds.
Is this one any good??? i really was hoping this probe one
would have worked out (its also my mistake i didnt even realize
it had a probe i just thought it was a 12 dollar digital so its my
mistake anyway),

i have contacted reptile basics for either a replacement and or refund lets see what they say.
if they offer a replacement hopefully it works, if a refund i'm just going to buy the flukers digital
from THP (which i should have done in the first place but i was trying to save money).

If you have a hinged glass lid that has the extra hard plastic strip at the back, just cut out a small square at one corner of the strip for the wire or just slide the wire in at the edge of the hinge.

do you know how accurate this gauge is? because i put it in the salt test and it read approx 75ish when i moved around the probe
in the sandwich bag it moved up or down depending but pretty close. Once i put the guage into the substrate it read up to 99
percent. My other gauge which after the full 24 hours was a solid 75 % and its currently 85 % so how is it possibly this gauge
is reading so high? and it doesn't appear to be changing. I even removed my plastic wrap and glass cover off my mesh lid
to see how my other gauge would react and it went down to about 80 % and this stayed at 99 % this is no way that this is
correct. Should i send it back as a dud?
Is the probe in the substrate? Shouldn't it be hanging in the air above the substrate. I'm not familiar with the brand, but if it is in the damp substrate, it's probably going to give its highest possible reading.

I tried both and it reads super high doing either or Image

Replacement on the way. Does anyone know if i should just place the probe "hovering" or into the substrate because the owner of reptile basics basically told me in the wet substrate it's not going to give a proper reading but just go up to Max. Any ideas ?

Mine is dangling about an inch from the top of the tank. You want to be testing the air in the tank. The substrate is very wet like the owner said and will give a false reading.
