Does anyone have an idea about the best habitat I can buy for under 200 to 300?

I used a large plastic storage bin. My husband modified the lid to allow a space for lighting and air. It was the only thing large and cheap. It was 20 dollars at Home Depot!

Totes and $1/gallon sale tanks are the best deals for tanks. The $1/gal sale tanks usually cut off at 40gal or 55gal, so if you want bigger a tote will be a better idea. Craigslist can be a good place to get a tank but you will need to deal with cleaning and hauling the tank and possibly the stand.

Totes are cheap and easy to set up so that's an awesome option. I second YYWW's suggestion of checking Craigslist - you can get some good deals there, but like she said the hauling/cleaning can be a pain. Worth it, though, for the good price you can probably get :)

Like everyone else reccomened, I recommend Craigslist. The other day I found a brand new 45 gallon tank for $50. I wanted to get it so badly, but I am still in high school, therefore I still am having to go through my mom with these things, and she said nope. But the totes are cheaper, but in my opinion, I like the tanks, because they look a little nicer, and you can see through the sides. If you do find a tank, and you struggle with finding a stand, I would not try to look for a specific aquarium stand, but instead, look on Craigslist for tables, desks, etc. Good luck!

Don't forget thrift stores. Or, yard sales once spring comes.

You need something that can support 8+ inches of moist substrate and that can be safely heated and that will hold in humidity. How basic or how fancy is up to you. :) There are no pre-made hermit habitats so you'll need to piece things out - substrate, pools, food bowls, hides, climbing items, fake plants, etc. Personally, used aquariums are the best way to save money and still have a display tank, but in my area even used tanks prices often don't compare to the $1 a gallon sales for new. If access to the tank is a problem, then a modified front-open terrarium is worth the price.
