Enclosures that aren't tanks?
I want to upgrade my crabs from their 10 gallon tank, as I want more crabs, I want to do more natural decor, and of course my current babies deserve more room and won't be small forever. Tanks are all good, but they can be pricy and totes look pretty handy and cheap to have, but has anyone used anything else? Like even a drawer or something? I'm really liking the idea of using something besides a tank to keep crabs! Especially if it's something that looks decorative to my room! Ideas?

Re: Enclosures that aren't tanks?
I have seen people transform bookcases and dressers - but it isn't something that is done quickly

Truly blessed to have incredible creatures, wonderful friends and my amazing family in my life!! I'm very thankful & grateful for all of them! www.thehealthyhermit.com

The problem with crabs is two-fold:
The first is that they require high humidity and wet substrate, so whatever is used needs to be glass or plastic or well sealed against water. If not, it will mold, rot, leak or leech harmful things into the crabitat.
The second is that they are saltwater invertebrates, so they are extremely sensitive to chemicals and even natural occuring substances, things that can harm or kill them. The safe sealants that can be used are mostly two part epoxy, or fish safe paints, both of which cost more than a glass enclosure.
Plastic tubs are the most cost effective, although pet stores run $1 a gallon sales. Petco has one on now until the 3rd, up to 29 gallons, larger tanks are half off.

Thanks for the info! Do you know if Petsmart runs any $1 per gallon sales?

They have had $2 sales before which included lids and lights. Pet Supplies Plus also runs $1 a gallon sometimes.
