Wow, haven't been here in ages.
Anyways, received a small windfall a while back and was encouraged to do something self-indulgent with some of it. Picked up some custom tempered glass sheets and voila!

Very proud of this and happy for the crabs too, since it gives them room for lots of climbing, which I had lost over the years as I added substrate to keep it deep enough for the mighty Roscoe to have enough depth to molt.
The topper is essentially an upside-down frameless aquarium with a sliding door in the front. The opening was designed to perfectly match the half-opening of the main tank, with a flat bead of silicone around the lip to ensure the force is evenly distributed.

Pretty fancy DIY there. I see kitty likes it too

That he does. He managed to shatter one of the old roof panels on the left the first time he jumped from the left to the topper, but the same tempered glass order also included thicker ones for that side as well,so it's all good.

Welcome back from the coffin! LOL!
Your tank looks great! You just have one crab in there?
Two of my cats like to go on top of my tank, I don't have a topper - but wouldn't have thought of them jumping up there! Yikes!
Also, love to see a collection of cook books!

Thank you all!

I have one other crab at the moment, Little Joe, but as he is little (joe) he didn't factor into the substrate depth
