My fiddler crab died?

Post by Guest » Thu Mar 05, 2009 11:32 am

Not having good luck lately, first my hermie died two days ago and now I think my fiddler did as well. I woke up this morning to find him turned over on his stomach dead. I don't think I'm looking at a molted exo since it still has all his colour and the parts of him that weren't hard shell looked to have rotted out. He almost looks hollow inside. I could be wrong in thinking that its not a molt, but I was under the impression that they were always ghost white shells left over. This sucks :(

just curious, but how long have you had the fiddler, and what type of pool do you have (fresh, brackish)?

by "looks like they rotted out" do you mean that most of the uncovered organic material is gone, but some has been left behind, or do you means its disappeared completely? with the later, i would bet on a molt. exo's can have the same coloring as the actual crab.

if he has passed, i'm sorry for your loss. i've lost several MHC lately and know it is quite frustrating.

if it is an exo, it will be QUITE VISIBLY EMPTY AND HOLLOW. Here's a pic of one of my fid's exos...

My fiddler exos are always hollow looking, not preserving the entire colour but usually a light brown or orangish colour.
I've got a zoo in my house. I should charge admission.
