HCA: Hermit Crab Association

I'm 57 year old and not into fish keeping. I am thinking to gift a mid sized aquarium to my wife, but i'm confused among 3 options. I'll appreciate if you professionals can guide me. My options are -

None of the links come up for me~ but I can tell you that I have never liked acrylic tanks. After buying my first fishtank 23 years ago, I’ve since then only bought used because you get more for your money!

I've been fish keeping for about 15 years now. I've used glass and acrylic, and I prefer glass. I couldn't view any of the links, but a good idea is to buy used or hit up Petco/PetSmart when they have the $1/gallon deal. I used to have 5 tanks going at once, the largest being a 55 gallon. Now I'm down to one 40 gallon breeder freshwater tank. Just remember, the smaller the tank, the more maintenance it will require (more frequent water changes). Also, the best option for most fish is a large surface area (angelfish are an exception and prefer high tanks). It will allow for more oxygen exchange at the surface. For example, if you were going to put a couple of small goldfish in a 20 gal tank, you would want to buy a 20 gal long not a 20 gal high. The same would go with a 40 gal or a 40 gallon breeder (the breeder is longer and has more surface area). A 55 gal might be a little overwhelming for a first time fish keeper. I've kept many size tanks and a good size for your wife might be a 40 gal breeder. It's not huge, but it is big enough to require a little less maintenance than a 20 gal long. Just remember too, if you plan on getting goldfish, they are very dirty little things and may require a little more cleanup than other freshwater fish. Despite that they are definitely my favorite fish to keep!

Petco is having a half off sale until sometime in November. if I remember right it was about 14th or 15th. I just bought a 40 gallon breeder yesterday
