mystery snail eggs

Post by crabs_lex » Fri Jun 11, 2021 12:21 am

so i have four snails in my 10 gallon fish tank and ugh the one has just laid eggs
almost a week ago and i know they hatch in one to two weeks
but i really can’t keep all the eggs but i would HATE to kill them off....
what should i do? is there like a way to give them to someone?

I've had my snails lay eggs a few times, and only once did I actually get baby snails (the rest of the clusters were duds). They were pretty adorable and so tiny! But I didn't get them out of the tank in time and my goldfish ate them. I was so bummed. If you actually get any babies out if them, I would take some! I'd put them in a separate tank this time until they were big enough not to be eaten. I'm down to just 3 nerite snails and a couple of mystery snails and could use a bigger clean up crew. The nerites don't clean up nearly as well as they mysteries do in my tank (I have four big and messy goldfish).

here they are in the breeder box. it’s hard to see because i had to reach around the side to snap a pic. sorry. they are currently eating an algae wafer lol. but they are so small and cute. if you look at the one on the left in the middle you can even see his antennae! they are about as big as a dull pencil tip. a couple did not make it… but i’d say there’s a good amount that did!

hahah no. snails are born with their shells and they grow with them. so that’s why calcium is very important to them because it keeps their shells healthy and good looking. :)

They are so cute! but how come I always see empty snail shells outside? I thought they needed to find shells like hermit crabs?

If you're finding empty shells, that means the snail inside died and decomposed, or something ate it. I have snails in my fish tank. Sometimes I just see an empty shell and no snail. That means my goldfish made snack of the recently deceased lol.
