Jerry switched shells!

Post by OBXPair » Wed Jul 08, 2015 11:02 pm

I wanted to share this because it makes me so happy to see Jerry jauntily walking away from that horrible blue-painted thing. If you ask me, he looks pretty pleased with himself. :D

I did...but couldn't bring myself to throw it away. You know how people save their babies' first shoes? Well...

By the way, he just switched again:

Jerry's companion crab, Jeff, has also made the switch! Jeff's original shell wasn't as garish as Jerry's--it was a brownish one with sort of muted gold highlights--but still, it was painted. And too small. :(

So here are the "before" and "after" shots of Jeff. Old shell:

And new! (Doesn't he look more comfy?)

They look great! And Jeff has amazing color! Is he really that dark?

Also, I keep all of the crabs original shells on a bookcase. Most aren't in great condition, but they are all natural minus my adopted boy's. I just don't want to put them back in. I don't know if it's because I'm sentimental or what. I just like seeing them with a completely fresh start after they change. They are almost all magpies, worn, ugly magpies, that they immediately abandoned for turbos.

Lol I am with you I still have all the starter shells :P! I couldn't bring myself to throw it out either. Instead the kids and I are going to make a shadow box and display them with little tags to who they belonged to :D. My son's idea and I so love it lol.
Mom to: 2 Kids,4 PP's, Cats, 1 Dogs, and whatever else gets put on my doorstep. (Box on doorstep. Hubby says,"Did you order anything?" I say "no". He says, "go get it, I don't want to know." Even tho he always ends up loving it or at least accepting it lol.)

Not quite as dark as the picture makes him look, but almost. Actually, both of my crabs have darkened since we got them. They've grown, too. (Is it normal for hermits to grow visibly in less than 4 weeks?) I think they must have been missing something in their diet in that horrible store. :x

Someone should post pics of their abandoned-shell collection! I'm thinking of making a terrarium using just things I'm sentimental about: plants from special friends, rocks from special places, and of course the abandoned hermit shells.
