New Crabbies!!!

Post by doth » Mon Aug 07, 2017 7:06 pm

We finally got our crabs! We got three small ones named Spikes, Scrundle, and Clyde. They are all hiding/digging right now but we took some pics before they burrowed.:

I set out some apples, peanut butter, pecans, honey, and coconut oil for them and they have a cuttlebone too, but they haven't investigated yet. Maybe tonight!

Here's some pics of the updated crabitat, and then some of the little guys.

We added mesh bridges to the water dishes and rearranged some of the pebbles so there're shallower & deeper ends

And here's a pic of the whole tat (we used to have a ladder but took it out once we realized it wasn't just wood and rope but also had glue...)

Here's Scrundle (top) and Spikes (bottom) starting to burrow under the driftwood:

And here's Clyde hiding over by the shell shop:

Not much action going on in the tank right now but they are very cute and I love them! I hope they settle in nicely and are happy here.

Ftr- humidity is at 87% right now, temp is 85 at the warmest end of the tank (with ultratherm plugged in). Sub is 6in of sand & EE at about 4:1.

Thank you! I am very excited, but nervous at the same time. Hoping they adjust well!

Yay! Congratulations! Great set up!

My only suggestion is adding some animal protein to their buffet, if you need suggestions let me know! Here's a great nutrition post: http://www.hermitcrabassociation.com/ph ... hp?t=92528

it's a plastic hide meant for hamsters! I liked it cause the opening was so big. they haven't checked it out yet though, but maybe once they're done destressing!

they were from petco, which, I know, I know, but they took decent care of them there (not ideal conditions, but not terrible- they had room to dig and both fresh and salt water)

I was pleasantly surprised, especially after seeing a petsmart where the crabs looked not-so-happy

I got one of my crabs there, and I've had him the longest.
His name is Rocky, and he's a 2" PP.
