HCA: Hermit Crab Association

First off, hi guys! I haven't been on in ages and I still won't be consistent at all, but I miss being active on here and wanted to share an update. We're in the process of settling into a new house, and yesterday we finally got the crabs moved over.

The bad news but also good news - My humidifer had been leaking outside the tank and rotted a corner of the stand without me realizing. We debated for a while and decided to upgrade from a 55 gallon to 75 gallon tank since Petsmart had a kit for a decent price and I need the extra space for my bigger crabs. They're growing like crazy and most of them I've had for almost 3 years now.

I had 15 purple pinchers, and unfortunately lost 3 underground for unknown reasons. That leaves me with 12, and 4 of them are in separate isos at the moment because I suspect they're all about to molt since they're sluggish and were all underground.

Since it was kind of an emergency upgrade I don't have quite enough substrate yet but I'm going to start slowly adding more daily until I'm back up to 10" or so.

The crabs are grumpy about being moved and having things rearranged, but the temp/humidity are stable and I think they'll enjoy the extra space.

From that picture he looks like an indo or a blueberry. I only have purple pinchers so I don't know much about other species but he is sure pretty!

Yep, Purple Pincher! I have a couple that are a little purple, but he's definitely my most unique! He started off the more normal reddish color and then grew into this. I hope he stays like this.

Thanks, I think he's my prettiest colored one. I wish he was an indo or blueberry, but he's just a different colored PP.

Can we get some closer pics of the crabbies? Dey is so pretty

Thanks! And I know, his color is crazy! He's kind of a jerk but at least he's a pretty jerk.

Did you adopt him that color, or did he molt into it? If so, what do you feed him

He was a really small guy when I got him and a normal reddish color. He just sort of slowly turned purply blue. All my crabs eat almost exclusively from The Hermit Crab Patch. Nothing special, just a big variety of their mixes. I wish I knew a trick to get more to turn purple!

Just noticed The food dish with the scallop shells... Like a lazy Susan for crabbies? Lol LOVE!
