75 gallon build!

So today was the big day! I’ve been up since early this morning to start my new crabitat adventure. Here’s my day through a bunch of pictures!

Image
This was before. Ignore my little painting with a twist photo. I’m a terrible artist. Ha.

Image
Making sure the space would look good with a 75 gallon! I’d say it fits pretty perfect!

Image
1st bag of sand in!

Image
2 bags! Haha

Image
5 bags of sand and 24 quarts of EE!

Image
Overall of the tank

Image
The lefts side, or the beach side. Fresh and salt water.

Image
The right side, more of the “forest” section. Two moss pits, a climbing toy, and a cave to hide.

Image
And the center, a giant Bonsai tree.

I just got back from Petco, and they have a fresh shipment of E’s. I’m in Florida, and I have NEVER seen E’s around. (I admit, I also haven’t been looking very hard.) so I’m tempted to go grab a few while they’re there. The tank has been a steady 78 degrees and 80% humidity thanks to the bubble pools.

I am like a giddy school girl. I’m finally in my happy place again!

Thanks for reading!

Jeff

I also forgot! Not pictured are my new shells from Naples Sea Shell Company. Talk about a great deal, fast shipping and beautiful shells. I have them boiling in salt Water as we speak!

I like it! Looks good. :)
Big tanks are so much fun. There's way more room to add decorations and climbing stuff. :D

The pools look a bit like a shallow reptile dish I've seen - you may wish to replace those with deeper pools if your crabs can't fully submerge once you get them.

Also, just an FYI, boiling in salt water can dull shells. I usually boil in fresh, then dip them in salt water.

Thanks!

I actually had the hubby do the shell washing, and he forgot the salt, so that worked out! I'll keep that in mind in the future.

The dishes get about 3 inches deep. The crabs I'm getting won't be big - I want to start with smaller ones.

I eventually would like to build bigger pools of my own, but until I find something I really like, these will work.

Oh - they're far deeper than they look! Gouda. :)

You'll have to show us pics once you get them home!

That looks really good. Be interesting to see down the road as you begin to fill it up with more decor and such.

Lucky crabbies!

Alright. The temptation was much too high. 6 PP’s and 5 E’s are happily running around and exploring the tank!

Is the bonsai tree real? Because I have one and I have been wanting to put it in my tank.

It’s fake. It’s an ornament from PetSmart.

Looks great!! Just want to make sure the substrate was mixed with dechlorinated msw or dechlorinated fw - it looks dry in the first few pics. It needs to be sandcastle consistency all the way through :) Very happy for you!

It was! That was as I was adding the substrate in and figuring out placements and such.

These 3 have been inseparable.
