UTH heaters and keeping in heat

The picture is what UTH I use on my tank. It does not heat it up well alone it says it can range from 4w-24w but it only feels like 4w how can I range it to 24w? The highest temp with just the UTH is 68 F which i need around 85. Anyone got tips about heat I bought a second one with the intention of having extra heat but I was told I should consider buying a 30-40 UTH for increased heat

The 10-20 gallons are only 8W total. I think the range you're seeing is the variation across all the sizes.

Keep in mind we're using UTH off-label. They're meant to warm up a little spot of flooring for reptiles to bask on, and then leave the rest of the space cooler so reptiles can adjust their temperature as needed. What we're doing is using them on a side to heat the air in the tank, so the gallons on the package are meaningless for hermits.

Ideally you want something that covers the back of the tank. You may even need to insulate the pad to boost it further. ZooMed brand cannot be isolated, it could overheat and cause melting or even a fire. The only two I know of thar can be safely insulated (and even recommend to do so in their instructions) are Ultratherm and Flukers.

I have this and it didn’t do much good. I switched out to an Ultratherm bought from Reptilebasics and have been very happy since! I also used Reflectix to insulate around it. Plus you can move them where the ZooMeds are pretty much non-usable once you peel it off.
