HCA: Hermit Crab Association

I had the privilege of attending the adoption event for mlakers captive bred hermit crabs last weekend, as well as Crab Con! I adopted three baby hermits, I’m not quite sure what species my little guys are but I’m sure time will tell. They’re very cute and have been settling into their new digs, I’ll be sure to update with crabitat pictures when I’m finished tweaking it.

It was an awesome event, if you like hermit crabs of course! Otherwise I'm sure it would be torture! Lol! I was wondering if it would get a little dull after several hours, it didn't. I know this started out as just an adoption weekend for Mary's babies. Then it slowly morphed into a convention. I heard some talk about one next year. If it does happen the organizers want to give everyone a longer heads up and also invite more organizations such as the HCA to be in attendance as well.

It was great to talk and meet some other people face to face rather than in front of a screen. I met PinchersandShells on Sunday and RiNiKy on on Saturday. Fleabag was even there dressed up as a Purrrr-ple Pincher in a green purrr-bo shell!

The prices were great at the vendors, we picked up a ton of foods from Stacy at Crab Street Journal, and a ton of various shells from Ken at The Shell Store. Their shell prices were extremely reasonable, I would guess almost half of retail anywhere else! The presentations were excellent. I found Courtney Karr's (the Cholla Queen) presentation on water and creating a bioactive crabitat very interesting.

If another convention is planned for next year Xeno and I will try our best to attend. It was a really good time.

I’ll ask the guest I brought, he knows almost nothing about hermits! And if there’s one next year I’ll also try to attend again!

That's awesome that it all went so well. Honestly sounds like an amazing event, next year if my bank account allows it, I'd love to go! (Especially if its located somewhere convenient like LA so I can step right off the plane without worrying about catching a connecting flight!)

We all got bags that have the Crab Con logo! We also got adoption certificates with the babies too!

I did! I forgot to take pictures of it. I also didn’t take pictures of the adoption certificate. I took these pictures after getting back to the hotel room after the convention so no wonder I forgot! My brain was all over the place.

I didn’t know if I should add to your thread or make a new one, I hope you don’t mind me posting these here. I finally got a few decent pics of my babies. They’re so tiny my phone camera doesn’t want to focus on them. They were being so cute this morning.

So cute.

I'm mad I had to miss it because of my surgery. >: (

Hopefully next year...

I think we are all hoping for a CrabCon 2020! I know we will definitely be there for it!
