I got started on my HC tattoo

Post by Motörcrab » Sun Aug 16, 2020 7:26 am

So far I'm 8 hours in on this new school hermit crab design. The line work, shading, and background are all complete. My artist will get me in, in a few weeks to finish the coloring.
This is is on the back of my right calf. The same artist did my left calf five years ago.

Artist: Greg Dorman
Shop: 5 South Main Tattoo
Montgomery, PA

Here you can see the progress so far. I can't wait to see completed.

Greg is great at doing new school designs. Cartoony and very colorful. He was asking me all sorts of questions about their mouths and antennas to get them right. I wasn't really sure what their mouths look like since they are always hidden.

It was going to be a caricature of our Eddie we lost, but it's nothing like an E. I was going to color it like him, but he was gray, and brown. I think making it colorful like a purple pincher how some go from pink, to red, to deep purple will look great!

IMO, a tattoo can totally be a tribute to someone or something, without being exactly the same. I agree that the colors of a PP will look great for this big tat!
My snowy owl is in memory of an auntie. My paw print is the actual imprint of one of my old dog's paw. Both are equally meaningful to me.

My artist started to crack up when he was coloring the eyes. After I saw the eyes I realized they are the same color of the eyes on my left calf. I'm not sure if that was intentional or not. You can search his other work on Instagram @greggydstyle He also does a lot of cool coffee and oil paintings too!

It will about mid September before I can possibly get in for another session with letting it heal all the way. Late August until early November is always my busy time with our Haunted House. I'll make time to get this finished though.

I kinda like the black and white minimalist influence it has. I love minimalistic design, but I usually end up cluttering everything in my life.
