Storm leaves 344,000 New England customers without powerThe first major winter storm of the year left 344,000 customers in northern New England without power on Thanksgiving, after disrupting holiday travel on one of the busiest travel days of the year. Record snowfall piled up across the region, snapping tree branches and downing power lines. Officials said it could take several days to restore all power. "This is not something you should try to wait out in your house," said Michael Todd, spokesman for the New Hampshire Department of Safety. [The Associated Press]Gak. Think of the crabs.

The only thing you can do is either put them in a carry kritter tank and take them with you if you have to leave and hope for the best or leave behind and pile their tank with lots of blankets and quilts and do the same.. hope for the best. I had crabs that went a few days in 30 degree weather in the house. We left for 3 days it was 60 something outside not to bad inside we came home and it was 45 out side and 30 frigid inside, the heaters couldn't even make the tank warm enough on the inside. The furnace went on fast I took a blow dryer and blew warm air in the tank til it got warmed up and the house got warm. We vet a lot of power outs here in our small towns and it takes hours when we gets ice storms. I throw blankets as many as I have over my tank. If the power is on and its cold in there I get the hair dryer and blow warm air in ( gently and on the end they are not on) just to take the chill out of the tank. It has not hurt my crabs they have become very active after a cold snap and I have warmed them up slowly and gently.
