Lol Lunie what are you doing?
I've been watching Lunie (admittedly obsessively) since he's come home with me. One thing I don't understand.... He has a thing with corners. He hasn't gone under yet to molt or de-stress yet either, but I assume that he's going to do that on his own whenever he feels like it. But it seems that he has a thing for corners--he'll wedge himself in between a dish, another shell, anything really that seems appropriate for him to use, scratch himself up a teeny bit of sub, and curl up and sit there. For like forever. And then he'll fill his shell or eat and he'll go back to the corner, any corner, and become like stone again. Wonder why. He isn't interested in any other part of the tank... and frankly it strikes me as a little bit strange. But who knows. it could just be a crab thing.

hi,
his prey animal mind tells him hes safer squished in a tight spot, best i can figure. some crabs are outhoing and stand like lightposts out on the highest point in the tank. some act like decorations. Hopefully Lunie will become more acclimated and come out of his/her shell, so to speak.
I dont know if you already have them, but provide plenty of shady cover, toppled cork piecs, terra cotta pots, leafy vines, anything they can get under will make those types feel safer.
Good luck shell buddy

Also is he alone? Maybe he'll get more motivated to move if he had tank mates? If space allowed of course

Thanks for your help, Mater and Visual! Yes he's alone, but he's going to get buddies in a couple of weeks and maybe he'll be happier then. I saw him check out a green turbo that looks way too big for him but who knows? He might be getting ready to finally molt and renew his leg tips and little pincher. And grow, possibly. Hopefully!

I have a crab that continually digs out one corner of my tank. It's right where a big hunk of drift wood meets the corner of the glass and he digs all the sub out from under it like its his job. Then he sits there all proud of himself waving his antennae high like what a good job he did. Then I fill it back in and he clocks in for work the next night! I cannot keep the sub deeper than 4 " in that spot. Silly crab!

Livin' the Crazy crab life :P
