Scrundles & Spikes

my crabs came up from their first molts with me a couple weeks ago and have been so much more active than they were before! I see them at least once a day now, and yesterday I got to see them both out at once, chowing down on some scallops. it's hard to get stuff done at home when all I want to do is watch them crawl around

figured I'd post a few pictures to show off my cuties. Scrundles is in the turbo (same shell from when I got him) and Spikes is in the murex (which is really big on him, lol).

we've had some heat issues the past couple days- changing weather dropped the tat to around 72* at the coldest which we weren't comfortable with. we insulated the ultratherm with some foil and turned on our space heater and now the warmest end is around 78*. phew! if the weather gets much colder the radiators will kick on, so I think if we can manage at these temperatures we'll be fine through winter. it was scary there for a minute though! I like to stay in that 75-85 range.

anyway, no real point to this post other than to update & show off pics of my cuties. so here they are!

Freshly risen crabs can be a serious hazard to productivity. I would never recommend hermits to someone who works from home .

I continue to adore the name Scrundles. Both crabs are very cute.

If you ever need a heat boost prior to the rads kicking in, cardboard & Styrofoam are solid insulators & okay with your ultratherm. My first tat, I sat around gluing packing popcorn (those Styrofoam blobs) in rows between cardboard layers wrapped in tinfoil, because that's what I had on hand for no money. But I hear that reflectix works well. :roll:

If your heat is dry, the humidity could see a drop - it's another consideration.

ehehe thank you! they really are a joy to watch.

the bf has some reservations about cardboard but maybe I can talk him into styrofoam. though hopefully we won't need either.

luckily humidity is always 90-99%! usually 99% actually. if anything I'd like it a touch lower but who's to complain? if I vent the lid it makes the temp drop a little so I can live with moldy food smell! at least until I figure out where they buried those missing scallops....

ahahaha thank you! he always looks silly clunking around in that mansion of shell. I may have to buy some smaller murexes to entice him.
