Kaytee "Healthy Toppings" (Coconut & Raspberry

Post by Guest » Tue Jul 10, 2007 11:51 am

Is the coconut and raspberry "Healthy Toppings" (the brand is Kaytee) okay to feed to hermit crabs? It says for birds, but on the ingredients, all it says is "coconut, dehydrated raspberries".

Here is the analysis:

Crude Protein (min.).........5.0%
Crude Fat (min.).............40.0%
Crude Fiber (max.).........18.0%
Moisture (max.)..............12.0%

Thank you so much!

Has anyone ever tried this?

I figured this would be OK, because I waited a couple days.
Anyway...

I really need help with this. I will be getting a new 10 gal tank (I'm currently in a 5 gallon with a couple tiny hermit crabs) and I would like to make coconut a part of their diet. Nobody in my household likes coconut, so it's not something we have in the house. I would like to know if anyone has used Healthy Toppings, and whether it caused anything bad. Even if you used it and it was fine, please let me know. I need any and all results of somebody feeding this to their hermies!

I use this fairly often, sprinkled on top of their fruit dish. Mine love it. You're right, there aren't preservatives or sugars, dyes etc. added, so I think it would be healthy. I found it because a friend uses it for her parrot, and she is as fussy as I am about making sure there are no additives in her bird's diet.

Yeah, it's fine. My hermies don't like the raspberries, though, and just pick out all the coconut. Silly hermies.

Willow, we make a good tema, then. My crabs pick out the raspberries first, and eat the coconut on the second day.

I used to feed this to my little guys all the time. They loved it. I didn't see any adverse problems from it either.

I don't recall if we've used this one ( probably cause I couldn't remember if raspberries were safe while in the store ) but we've fed/do feed our crabbies many of the Kaytee bird products.

I am glad I found this post! I feed this healthy topping and many of the others to my bunny rabbits all of the time. They go crazy and stand up on their back legs to beg when they just see the bag appear! I think I will give it to the crabs, too (that is if the bunnies will share!).
